I have always loved cars when I was little I would lie on the floor with my hot wheels pretending they were popping wheelies and making all kinds of car hooligan noises. My 1st car was a 1967 Mustang with a 351W swapped in and a burn out mark across the hood. Why my mom let me buy that car is beyond me but after then there was no turning back.
I picked up my Miata in Virginia in 2002. It had just come off the 18 wheeler and still had the plastic on the seats. The odometer read .07 when I took it for a test drive and I paid 20,100 for it out the door. The payments kept me from doing much to the car but the roll bar was a must and shortly after that came a JVC amp, Fosgate sub and Infinity component door speakers. The car stayed just like that until I got the title by then my plan was well thought out. My Mustang days thought me one lesson do it right once or you will spend twice the money to do it over. Before starting my mods the clutch was feeling soft so out it came and in went a ACT HD clutch. Safety first so it was on to suspension and tires. I had my eye on the SSR wheels for over a year and when Tire Rack put them on close out for half off I jumped at the chance. Now the little girly Miata was starting to look like it had a pair. I called Flyin’ Miata and ordered a set of AFCO coil over’s and FM’s big brake kit. What a difference! The thing is on rails and stops like a race car.
With the suspension working the way it should it was time to add power. Another call to FM and it was Christmas in February. I took a four day weekend, four big boxes were emptied and I was driving around with 12 PSI of boost. What a hoot! It wasn’t a week when I killed my first Mustang. Since then I have been enjoying the car at various tracks along the southern east coast.
Currently I have been racing the piss out of the car.
My futures plans are to work on the interior as it is beginning to show its age. That will consist of a full cage that will work on the street, some Sparco seats that will work with a 6 point harness, and a Sparco wheel. Once my interior is back in shape I will do something about a transmission that will live with 400HP then into the engine and add another hundred horsepower.
